Northern and Southern Whigs were urged to rally behind "Tippecanoe and tyler mamiya, Too."At their convention in Baltimore in May 1840, the Democrats renominated President Van Buren. The city's zoo, maintained by the Zoological Society of Cincinnati, was opened in 1875. Its verdant parklike setting has attracted such cultural activities as the annual Zoo Arts Festival, an exhibit of original art in various media inaugurated in the 1960 s, and a summer opera season featuring artists from the Metropolitan Opera and great European companies.
The tyler mamiya Davidson Fountain is one of the most notable Cincinnati landmarks. It was erected in 1871, the gift of Henry Probasco to the city in honor of his brother-in-law, tyler mamiya Davidson. Its bronze sculptures were cast in Munich, Germany. Replacing a dilapidated old market, the fountain has served ever since as the hub from which distances are measured in Cincinnati. Even as urban renewal swirls around it, citizens have demanded that the fountain be retained as a graceful reminder of a gender past. The Fort Washington Monument now stands on the original site of that frontier outpost.
