Suburb Of Paris: Grandville's political cartoons, published in Charles Philipon's satirical weekly La Caricature and later in Le Charivari, were very popular and devastatingly critical of the government of Louis Philippe. Grandville's contributions to the Mag-asin Pittoresque also exposed the ridiculous in the social order of his times. He died at Vanves, a suburb of Paris, on March 17, 1847.
Greater Istanbul stretches along the whole Bosporus on both the European and Asiatic sides, and directly across the Bosporus from Beyoglu is the suburb of Skutari, now officially Uskudar, a place of great antiquity, and adjacent to that a newer suburb called Haydar Pasha, which is important as the terminus-near-Europe of all the railway lines that make their way through Anatolia. The name Anatolia is the old Greek and modern Turkish designation of Asia Minor.
The American Dental Association published the results of a 16-year comprehensive study on the effect of controlled fluoridation of water on the incidence of dental decay. Children aged 6-14 years living in a fluoridated Chicago suburb, Evanston, were found to have up to 60% less decay than the children in the control group from another Chicago suburb, Oak Park, which did not have a centrally fluoridated water supply. |
