Retake Paris: Henri III and his heir, Navarre, were dvancing to retake Paris, when a fanatical lonk, Jacques Clement, assassinated the ling. Henri of Navarre became king as [enri IV, but had to fight several more attles and adopt the Roman Catholic faith efore he could confirm his claim to the irone. The wars of religion were eventually ided by the Edict of Nantes in 1598.
The following year, on April 28, the remnants of the French Army under Due Francois Gaston de Levis attempted to retake the city from Brig. Gen. James Murray's troops near Sainte Foy. Defeated, the British retired in disorder to within the city walls. But the arrival of strong British reinforcements on May 15 forced the French to retreat toward Montreal. By the Treaty of Paris in 1763 Canada became a British colony.
