Recorded History: Throughout much of human history, arses have been closely associated with men. or thousands of years men hunted the horse for 5 meat. Later, after the horse was domesti-ited, nomadic tribes used horses as load-bearers id as sources of milk. The horse first became iportant in warfare sometime before 1500 B. c., hen Mesopotamian peoples began to use horses pull their war chariots, and throughout most recorded history horses were used chiefly for arfare.
Paths and trails that finally became roads ave been used by man since the dawn of history. Nomadic tribes used them for travel between easonal hunting and fishing grounds. As barter eveloped between tribes, routes for easy travel nd exchange of goods became necessary. During ome 5,000 years of recorded history, overland ravel has been almost entirely by highway, ex-ept for a modern period of about 100 years when le use of highways was eclipsed by railway-avel. Beginning about 1830, highways declined i importance as railroads multiplied, but by 1930 ley were receiving more attention than ever be-)re throughout the world.
They joined the Marcomanni in attacking the empire once more, in 172 and in 178-179 under Marcus Aurelius, and in 180, after the latter's death, Commodus made peace with them. In 282, and again in 358 and 378, the Quadi made plundering raids into imperial territory. Their subsequent history is obscure. They seem to have been recorded as Suevi, and some of them participated in the invasion of Spain by the Vandals and the Alani in the 5th century. |
