If you want to increase your wedding business in June and August, you know how early to plan for it. If you see growth in your portrait business, then you can expect a good part of this business to come around the holidays in December. Summer months are big months for a photographer who specializes in outdoor portraits in customer's homes.
The person must also provide references from clients. A studio may apply for Qualified Studio status in only two portrait categories: business portraits and executive portraiture. Most of the "Qualified Studio" listings are for studios in the commercial field, many of whom represent business and industrial clients. Qualified Studios are listed in a special directory that is distributed to almost 100,000 advertising agencies and commercial, business, and industrial organizations. A modest advertising program is also maintained with ads appearing in a number of important business publications.
Before you go to work in any town, check with the local authorities to find out whether you need a license to do business. Usually no license will be required, or one can be had for a few dollars.
If you don't want to do baby pictures, which is the surest and easiest specialty, you might specialize on portraits. One photographer, working out of Los Angeles, has set up a complete glamour portrait business in a trailer, complete with movable spotlights for careful Lighting effects, and has been so successful that he often finds it profitable to stay in the same town for weeks at a time. |
