Painted A Picture That The use of lines is gaining importance for the arrangement of the picture, and this is what heralds his next period. In his self-portrait of spring 1907 (p. 32), painted a picture that shortly afterwards, lines have become the dominating structural device. Facial features are marked by broad, fast strokes of the brush, which also delineate the other areas in the picture.
