New York Post: The metropolitan newspapers, all of them, told the story of the tragedy not in words but in pictures, which were often enlarged half a page in sia. The New York World-Telegram carried twenty-one photographs; the New York Post had seven pages of pictures, the Daily Mirror, nine. Never had a disaster been so thoroughly covered by photography.
Tightening a moving newel post involves lifting a floorboard to reach where it is screwed to the Floor joist. Try tightening the screws or make a new, firm base by installing two bolts through the base of the post into the joist. Also check the joint between the newel post and the outer stringer; if it has moved, the treads and risers might pull away. Brace the post with wood blocks glued and screwed to the inner face of the stringer and the post.
