Modern Art D-knotted:

Modern Art D-knotted The third type, or knotted rug, is the one most generally used. Here the weft is a mere binder, the entire surface, or pile, being formed by the ends of threads knotted around the warps. Two types of knot are used, the Ghiordes or Turkish, and the Sehna or Persian. The former is used in Turkey, the Caucasus, and parts of Persia, the latter throughout the greater part of Asia, including China, Turkestan, Beluchistan, and most of Persia.

Weavers in several European countries, particularly those of Scandinavia and a few in the United States are now making extraordinary Floor coverings in contemporary patterns by the hand-knotted process. These are unquestionably the finest Floor coverings being made today. The Ghiordes knot is used, the finest quality wools and dyes are selected and the patterns have been made by designers of international reputation. The Scandinavians have specialized in producing what is known as the Flossa or Rya weave; this is an alternating pile and tapestry surface, in which high pile strips about one inch wide are separated by about one inch of plain tapestry weave; the pile bends over with a shaggy appearance and covers the tapestry strip. The Scandinavian patterns often show modern art d-knottedized peasant design characteristics. There are hand-knotted Rugs woven in New York City that in spite of higher production costs than in Europe are sold at a lower price than the European productions due to tariff protection. These are so beautifully designed that they can only be considered as works of art. Structurally they are woven with a tightly tied Ghiordes knot and they are the most durable of all Floor coverings. They are suitable for luxurious types of interiors and are made of the finest imported wools. modern art d-knotted patterns are produced by both color variations, contrasting pile heights and textural effects, and consist of geometrical, abstract and naturalistic subject matter. Rugs of this type are necessarily made to order.

With a knotted garnish on the halved lemon: insert the tip of a Knife at the pointed end of the lemon, cut away the peel in a thin regular strip—do this carefully so the peel does not break. Continue until the peel is removed from half the lemon. Cut away the pulp. Twist the peel into a knot on top of the halved lemon. ORANGE though rarely used—is excellent with turbot, cod and herrings.
