Gummed Picture: Similarly gummed pictures in a variety of sizes, ranging from the postage size to 8 x 10, are produced at surprisingly low rates by the Grogan Photo Co., of Danville, Illinois. You supply the original print, charging the customer your regular rate for shooting the picture, and then offer him the small reproductions in quantity at prices which seem startlingly low but which still leave you a margin of profit.
Stamp collections are housed in albums that are usually loose-leaf. Stamps are affixed to the page by gummed hinges or are slipped into pochettes or transparent strips that are used primarily for mint stamps (stamps that have never been used).
Stamps are valued according to their rarity and condition.
Greek words whose sum means 'the love of being tax free' alludes to the fact that, before postage stamps, letters were sent collect.
The advantages to the buyer are obvious. Does it seem like a bad arrangement for the photographer? At first glance it might seem so, but when this same picture is sold over and over, perhaps fifty times in the course of years, the photographer eventually realizes a handsome total return for his effort in shooting the picture for stock sales.
That's why the stock picture photographer doesn't get rich quick, but enjoys a long-term income advantage for his work. Many a picture has earned, over a period of years, more than $1,000 in fees. |
