Age History In General:

His History of Ionian Philosophy(1821) ; History of the Pythagorean Philosophy (1826), and Notes on the Philosophy of the Megarean School in the Rheinisches Museum, are models of historical investigation on the principles of Schleiermacher. His historical masterpiece is the History of Philosophy (1829-53), which deals with general history up to the time of Kant. It was supplemented by a Review of the History of German Philosophy from the Time of Kant (1853).

Transportation routes tend to be direct straight lines between any two traffic centers, unless there are such obstacles as mountains or bodies of water, or unless it seems worthwhile to deviate from the straight line to serve an intermediate trade center. Ocean routes are deflected by land masses. Of all modes of transportation, the most modern, air transportation, is least affected by topography or other natural conditions in following a straight-line route. The present article provides a general survey of transportation under the following main headings: 1. History 3. Influence of Transportation 2. Factors in the Develop- on History ment of Transportation 4. Bibliography 1. History

Ramsay MacDonald (1866-1937), leader of Britain's first two Labour governments (1924/1929-31), met the financial crisis of 1931 by forming a predominantly Conservative 'National' coalition government (1931—35). The miners, resenting TUC 'betrayal' in calling off the General Strike (May 1926), stayed out until Aug. The follow- Idwin's government passed an Act making general strikes illegal. The miners, who stayed out longest during the General Strike (May—Aug. 1926), challenged Margaret Thatcher's government during the longest strike in British history (1984-85).
