1946 An Exhibition Was Shown: In 1946 an exhibition was shown at the Louvre, with pictures by Picasso side by side with paintings by Jacques-Louis David, Francisco de Goya and Diego Velazquez. Picasso's pictures - as one might have expected - stood the test, and from now on there was a touch of that typical post-war optimism in people's attitudes towards him: they were convinced that the new, as embodied in Picasso, would surpass the old.
The living room of his own weekend cottage at Frösakull -shown in the exhibition as a full-scale model - is a précis of his ideas on housing and furnishing.
Mathsson's ideal room has large expanses of glazing, so as to make the landscape outside part of the dwelling environment.
This exhibition draws on his archive of 40,000 negatives in the RIBA British Architectural Library Photographs Collection.
The exhibition will take place between 10 March - 22 April 2006. |
