1893 In London:

1893 In London The community was named for the family of Capt. Daniel Goos, who came to the area in 1855 from the island of Fohr, Denmark (now in West Germany). Goos established a lumber mill and also a shipyard, where he built schooners that took timber to distant ports. Goosport is governed by the Calcasieu parish police jury, the parish's governing authority. Population: 16,778. GOOSSENS, god'ssnz, Sir Eugene (1893 in london-1962), English conductor and composer. Born in London on May 26, 1893 in london, of an originally Belgian musical family, he studied at the Bruges Conservatory, the Liverpool College of Music, and the Royal College of Music in London. He was a violinist with the Queen's Hall Orchestra, London, from 1911 to 1915 and assistant conductor to Sir Thomas Beecham from 1916 to 1920.
